As a wedding photographer based in the heart of Sussex, I’ve been lucky enough to explore some of the most beautiful venues this part of the world has to offer. Sussex is full of charm, character, and breathtaking scenery, making it the perfect place for couples looking to tie the knot surrounded by nature, history, or a mix of both. If you’re planning a laid-back celebration in the countryside or a romantic editorial-inspired day, these venues are firmly on my bucket list for their unique backdrops and the stories they help tell. Here are a few dream spots I’d love to photograph your wedding at (or already can’t wait to return to!).
Two Woods Estate
Located within a magical redwood forest, Two Woods Estate is the perfect venue for nature lovers seeking intimacy and connection. The towering trees create a stunning ceremony space, while the surrounding grounds offer endless opportunities for heartfelt portraits. This venue truly celebrates the beauty of the outdoors and is perfect for couples looking to embrace the wild, wonderful side of love.
Seaford College
If you're after something more grand and atmospheric, Seaford College is truly special. With its elegant architecture and sprawling grounds, it has a refined, old-world feel that still feels intimate and deeply personal. It’s a venue that lends itself beautifully to documentary-style photography, there are hidden corners, dramatic trees, and so much room for spontaneous, candid moments. A perfect setting for couples dreaming of a more editorial wedding without losing the warmth.
Cowdray – The Walled Garden
Cowdray’s Walled Garden is like stepping into a secret storybook. Enclosed by centuries-old brick walls and bursting with seasonal flowers, it’s a venue that feels both private and poetic. There's something incredibly special about outdoor ceremonies here, surrounded by lavender, roses, and old stone archways. The garden creates a stunning, natural backdrop for those gentle, in-between moments that I love to capture: quiet glances, joyful hugs, and unposed laughter.
Farbridge
Farbridge is a tucked-away gem near Chichester, surrounded by the soft rolling hills of the South Downs. With beautifully restored barns, creamy flint walls, and plenty of natural light, it’s ideal for an editorial yet relaxed aesthetic. The ceremony space is intimate and calm, while the reception barn is open, warm, and full of character. It’s a dream spot for a couple who wants elegance with a country heart, and the photo possibilities are endless.
The Rubbing House
Located near Goodwood by The Trundle, The Rubbing House is a venue I truly aspire to photograph at, thanks to its breathtaking views and surrounding countryside. This charming, Airbnb-style space offers a peaceful and intimate setting, perfect for couples who want a relaxed, private celebration. The natural beauty of the location makes it an ideal backdrop for capturing those unforgettable moments.
Upwaltham Barns
This venue has an undeniably romantic feel. Upwaltham Barns is a family-run space with rustic-luxe charm, blooming gardens, and a real sense of privacy. I love how the barn layout encourages a natural flow between the day’s events, and the courtyard in the centre is perfect for mingling, relaxed couple portraits, or even a candlelit moment at dusk. The views over the South Downs make every image feel timeless and deeply grounded in nature.
Final Thoughts
